Atlastjet Sends APU To Turkish Technic

Turkish Technic input another Hamilton Sundstrand APS3200 auxiliary power unit (APU) from Atlasjet, a Turkey- based carrier, in mid-July and should finish repairing it by the middle of this month.

The service agreement also included spare support.

The parties would not disclose the contract’s value for this APU maintenance.

Turkish Technic targets maintaining 100 APUs in 2011, which if averaged equates to a throughput of about 8.3 units per month, although APUs are used more in the summer to air condition cabins on the ground during warm weather so more wear occurs during this time.

Atlasjet sent two APS3200 APUs to Turkish Technic in May to June 2010 and also previously contracted the MRO to perform an Airbus A321 C check, two A320 redelivery checks and one landing gear overhaul.

The carrier, the first private airline to become a member of the International Air Transport Association, flies 14 Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

100th Airbus aircraft delivered to British Airways

British Airways has taken delivery of an A320 aircraft, making it a member of a prestigious airline club that can boast 100 or more aircraft deliveries from every member of Airbus’ Single Aisle aircraft Family. The airline has already taken delivery of two A318s, 33 A319s, 48 A320s and 16 A321s.

The 100th aircraft (an A320 powered by IAE engines) is also the 205th Airbus single aisle delivered to International Airlines Group, which was formed in January 2011 following the merger of British Airways and Iberia.

“This milestone underlines British Airways’ commitment to continue to invest in new aircraft for the benefit of our customers,” said British Airways CEO Keith Williams.

“We are very proud that a world class airline like British Airways operates every member of our single aisle family aircraft, and even prouder to deliver to BA their 100th Airbus A320 family aircraft. We look forward to broadening and deepening our partnership with BA,” said Tom Enders, Airbus President and CEO.

Spirit add more flights between Chicago and Las Vegas

In November this year, Florida-based Spirit Airlines, who has four round-trip flights a day in and out of Las Vegas, will add a daily flight between McCarran International Airport and Chicago’s O’Hare International.

Starting Nov. 11, Spirit, which flies twin-engine Airbus A319, A320 and A321 jets, will have daily flights leaving Chicago at 10 pm, arriving at McCarran at midnight. The return flights leave Las Vegas at 12:50 am, arriving in Chicago at 6:20 am.

The discount carrier announced that it would compete with industry giants United and American on the route by adding daily late-night flights. United currently operates six flights a day between Chicago and Las Vegas while American operates five flights a day.

Currently, Spirit offers two daily round trips linking Las Vegas with Detroit and with Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the airline’s hub airport.

Spirit Airlines is best known as a discount carrier to Caribbean destinations and Central and South America with some domestic flights to Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, Boston, and Las Vegas. It also operates a “$9 Fare Club,” which enables members to purchase deeply discounted tickets, some as low as $9 one way. The annual membership in the club is $40, but it’s free to customers who acquire Spirit’s branded MasterCard.

Founded in 1980, the airline has a fleet of twenty-six A319s, three A320s (with 34 more orders), and two A321s.
