How Hobbits Fly

Air New Zealand had one of their planes painted with Hobbit characters as part of anticipation for the film The Hobbit. The Air NZ 777-300 painted with Hobbit characters is the most exciting plane you will see in the sky. The 830 square metre Hobbit artwork is the largest ever graphic to be applied to an aircraft.

The Hobbit-themed 777-300 aircraft will primarily operate Auckland to Los Angeles to London return but, on occasion, Australians will be able to see the flying Hobbit billboard in skies above Brisbane as it will operate occasionally between Auckland and Brisbane. Air New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Rob Fyfe says the imagery, which extends the full length of the aircraft, is simply stunning.

“This aircraft is going to excite passengers and fans of Sir Peter Jackson’s award-winning cinema fantasies alike when it begins regular Air New Zealand services between Auckland, Los Angeles and London,” he said. New Zealand is the home of Middle-earth and The Hobbit movies will be hugely important to New Zealand’s tourism industry in the next couple of years as international tourists are inspired to come and see and experience for themselves the landscapes which have shaped the movies. We are thrilled to see so many international visitors booked to travel to Wellington for the world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey; we want them to experience the magic of Middle-earth as soon as they set foot on this aircraft”, he adds.

Showcase Models has a huge selection of aviation collectibles for you to choose from. The largest selection of desk model airplanes, wooden plane models, and display model airplanes are authentically detailed according to the original blueprints of the aircraft.
